Located in the heart of Salt Lake City, the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center, affectionately known as the Salt Palace Convention Center, is a facility that promises to be one of the most impressive convention centers you’ll ever visit. With its stunning interior and exceptional exterior, the name “palace” is no exaggeration.
The Salt Palace Convention Center may be the latest incarnation, but it wasn’t the first venue in Salt Lake City to bear the name “Salt Palace.” The original Salt Palace was built in 1899 and featured a dance hall, theater, and bicycle racing track. Its exterior was covered in salt crystals to reflect sunlight. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by a fire in 1910.
The Salt Palace name was then passed onto an indoor arena that opened in July 1969. This arena hosted various sports teams, including the Utah Stars of the American Basketball Association, the Salt Lake Golden Eagles hockey club, and the NBA’s Utah Jazz.
After the arena was demolished in 1994, the current Salt Palace Convention Center was built in its place. It boasts an impressive 515,000 square feet of exhibit space, 164,000 square feet of meeting space, a 45,000-square-foot grand ballroom, and 66 meeting rooms.
Despite its status as a local landmark with a century-long legacy, there are plenty of other attractions in Salt Lake City that you and your team should explore during your visit to the Salt Palace Convention Center. Many of these attractions are conveniently located within a mile radius of the convention center, ensuring that you’ll never go hungry or be bored.
