It feels like just yesterday when we celebrated Sage’s first birthday. Time sure flies by! We had recently moved into our new house, and shortly after, we hosted a memorable party for our little girl surrounded by our loved ones.

With countless adorable and creative first birthday girl themes to choose from, we decided on the enchanting ONEder the Sea! It was the perfect fit since Sage adored her mermaid dolly, and we already had some delightful decorations and seashell plates from my mermaid-themed bridal shower. We went all out because, let’s be honest, you only turn one once, right?!
First Birthday Decorations
To set the stage for the ONEder The Sea birthday extravaganza, we sourced adorable invitations from Etsy. For the party decorations, we found seashell plates and bowls, jellyfish paper lanterns, mermaid tail balloons, tablecloths, mermaid garland, and more from Amazon. Pro tip: We saved all the packaging, just in case, for easy returns. We also discovered cute ocean-themed beaded pillows at HomeGoods, which we plan to use for future summer decor. Our family friend even put together a balloon mermaid tail using a balloon set from Amazon. As for flower centerpieces, we picked up some stunning and affordable bouquets from our local grocery store, arranging them in vases we already had. To add a touch of elegance, we grabbed discounted table runners from JoAnn Fabrics. We also showcased pictures of our little girl and displayed her cake smash photo on our Samsung FrameTV!
The Showstopper: First Birthday Cake
We couldn’t get enough of Sage’s under the sea cake! After finding inspiration from Pinterest, we shared our ideas with Sweet Solutions in Canandaigua, NY, and they captured the theme perfectly. Additionally, we ordered beautiful under the sea cookies to complement the cake.
First Birthday Party Outfit
For the special occasion, my mom discovered an adorable rainbow tulle dress from elestory.com. It’s still available at the time of writing! To complete the look, we purchased a stunning mermaid-themed ‘one’ crown from Etsy.
Delightful First Birthday Party Food
Staying true to the under the sea theme, we served a variety of fun snacks. We had ‘fish’ (goldfish and Swedish fish), ‘driftwood’ (pretzel sticks), ‘oysters’ (oyster crackers), and many more delightful choices. As for the main dishes, we opted for sushi and subs!
Memorable First Birthday Party Favors
To thank our guests, we found cute and affordable sand toy sets at TJMaxx. They were a hit with the little ones!
