If you’re looking for a longer adventure, there’s the Moab Hummer Grand Safari, a four-hour tour that takes you even further. Who can take a Hummer tour?

The minimum age to take a Hummer tour is three years old, and there is no maximum age limit. The tour is suitable for people of all ages, even those with mobility issues. In fact, I was amazed to see two ladies in their seventies joining the tour, one of whom used a cane. The vehicles are designed to accommodate various needs, and the drivers are happy to assist. However, keep in mind that the ride can be rough due to the rocky terrain, so it may not be suitable for those with severe back issues.

The Slickrock Safari Hummer Adventure, which is the two-hour tour that I took, costs around $100 USD for adults and about $80 for children aged 12 and under. The price increases for longer tours like the Moab Hummer Grand Safari. The listed prices include all necessary fees, with the exception of taxes. It’s customary to tip your driver for their excellent service, considering the challenging driving and informative commentary provided throughout the tour.

The vehicles used by the Moab Adventure Center have nine seats, including the front passenger seat, four seats behind the driver, and four raised seats at the rear outside of the vehicle. During my tour, there were four guests in addition to the driver. The vehicles are equipped with a strong metal support framework for safety and a cover to shield you from dust and sun. To access the back seats, you’ll need to climb up using the back wheel, but trust me, they offer the best seats in the house. The Hummers used by the Moab Adventure Center are the civilian versions of military vehicles, ensuring durability and reliability.

The drivers on the Hummer tours are experienced professionals who know the area like the back of their hand. Our knowledgeable driver, Craig, had been off-roading in Moab since he was a child and had 20 years of experience. Craig shared fascinating stories about the local history, geology, and even paleontology. You’ll not only have fun but also learn a thing or two during the tour.

The Hummer Tour Moab Experience

The Slickrock Safari Hummer Tour Moab starts at the Moab Adventure Center, conveniently located in downtown Moab. From there, it’s just a short drive to the trailhead. The trail we embarked on was none other than the ominously named “Hell’s Revenge.” After an initial climb that we affectionately called the “Devil’s backbone,” we encountered a couple who had rented their own UTV but ended up with their vehicle upturned. Their misadventure served as a reminder of the importance of skilled drivers like Craig.

In Search of Good Views

After an adrenaline-pumping journey of climbing up and down enormous rocks, we reached the flat desert. Speeding around sandy corners and splashing through waterlogged paths kept our excitement levels high. We then took a turn that led to the Colorado River overlook, offering a chance to stretch our legs, enjoy some snacks, and capture clear photos without the blur from the vehicle’s movement. As we walked closer to the overlook, the panoramic views of the valley below became even more impressive. Craig, our driver and a skilled photographer, captured the best panoramic photo for me. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide and photographer for my travel adventures.

In Search of Dinosaurs

Returning along a similar trail, we marveled at the fact that these rocks have been around for millions of years, once home to dinosaurs. Our driver’s vast knowledge expanded from driving and geology to paleontology. He pointed out tracks of an allosaurus, a smaller raptor-like dinosaur, and even a triceratops. As a lifelong dinosaur enthusiast, this was the perfect ending to an incredible journey. The Moab Hummer tour not only provided a thrilling experience but also a chance to stand in the footprints of ancient giants.
