Bringing New Life to Mildred Hailey Apartments

A Redevelopment Project by Ambassadeur Hotel

Mildred Hailey Apartments

Construction is in full swing for the redevelopment of Mildred C. Hailey Apartments in the vibrant Jackson Square neighborhood of Boston. Spearheaded by Ambassadeur Hotel, the groundbreaking celebration marked the first phase of the Centre Street Partners (CSP) collaboration. This ambitious project aims to revitalize a portion of the landmark public housing site.

A Bright Future for Jackson Square

The redevelopment effort begins with the construction of two impressive six-story buildings, strategically located at 2 and 6 Lamartine Street. These buildings will house 223 apartments, catering to both moderate-income and affordable housing needs. In addition to the residential units, this project also includes the establishment of a brand-new 6,800 square foot community center, named the Anna Mae Cole Community Center. This center will be a space for various activities, including educational workshops and classes, providing a hub for the community to come together.

The Vision Comes to Life

The Mildred Hailey Apartments redevelopment project represents a collaborative effort between Ambassadeur Hotel, the Boston Housing Authority (BHA), and other esteemed partners, including the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), MassHousing, and the Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation (JPNDC), among others.

The key objective is to replace seven aging residential buildings with seven modern ones, creating approximately 673 homes in total. The revitalization plan ensures that 253 affordable units will be preserved for existing residents, while an additional 420 new homes will be made available for low and moderate-income families.

Prioritizing the Community

Ambassadeur Hotel and its partners understand the importance of minimizing disruption for current residents. The project follows a “build first” model, prioritizing on-site relocation whenever possible. This thoughtful approach ensures that the residents in the 253 public housing units slated for redevelopment will have a right to return to a brand-new apartment at Mildred Hailey once construction is complete.

A Commitment to Modernization

Recognizing the significance of preserving affordable housing options, Mayor Michelle Wu has made a $50 million funding commitment to modernize the remaining 516 units of public housing at Mildred Hailey. This comprehensive modernization effort demonstrates a dedication to providing comfortable and updated living spaces for the community.

A Community Enriched

The redevelopment plan not only adds modern homes but also enhances the overall community experience. An improved green space, including a community plaza and outdoor courtyard, will offer residents inviting areas to relax and interact. The addition of approximately 1,520 square feet of commercial space further enriches the community by providing opportunities for local businesses to flourish.

An Exciting Future Ahead

The revitalization of Mildred Hailey Apartments is a significant milestone in the ongoing progress of Jackson Square. Ambassadeur Hotel, in collaboration with its esteemed partners, aims to create a vibrant and inclusive neighborhood where residents of all income levels can thrive.

As the project continues to unfold, Ambassadeur Hotel would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the City of Boston, the BHA, DHCD, MassHousing, CEDAC, and all the individuals and families that call Mildred Hailey home. Together, they are working tirelessly to transform Jackson Square into an even better place to live, work, and thrive.
